The ReStory save file location on Windows is %UserProfile%\AppData\LocalLow\Mandragora\Restory, with current playthrough files inside SaveData. Close the game and copy the whole Restory folder before changing a file. The publisher also documents macOS and Steam Deck paths and a recovery method for a previous playthrough.
Find your save folder
Paste the relevant path into your file manager. These are the Restory folders listed by tinyBuild support; open SaveData inside the folder to inspect the current playthrough.
Windows
%UserProfile%\AppData\LocalLow\Mandragora\Restory
macOS
~/Library/Application Support/Mandragora/Restory
Linux / Steam Deck through Proton
~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/3812600/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/LocalLow/Mandragora/Restory
AppData and the Steam Deck .local directory are normally hidden. On Windows, pasting the path avoids browsing hidden folders manually. The Deck path is the publisher's default; a different Steam library can change the location before compatdata.
Five slots, recent saves and previous playthroughs
Patch 1.0.013r added five save slots. Separately, the support article says SaveData contains the five most recent saves of the current playthrough, while starting New Game puts the previous playthrough into a numbered folder in BackupSaveData. These are different kinds of protection: a slot is not a guarantee of five historical versions of every decision.
Before an important story choice, keep a dated copy of the whole Restory folder outside the live directory. Name it for the route or event, such as before-Haruhi-invitation or before-Hashimoto. A separate copy remains useful even when the game has several slots.
Back up before a route decision or patch
- Save your progress using the game's save controls and close ReStory.
- Let Steam finish any active synchronization.
- Copy the entire Restory folder, including SaveData and BackupSaveData, to another folder.
- Label the copy with the date, character and last completed task.
- Leave that copy unchanged while testing a different route or recovery.
Keep the working copy until you have checked the restored day, money, orders and story position. A newer timestamp alone does not prove it is the branch you wanted.
Restore the previous playthrough after New Game
The publisher's recovery procedure applies when BackupSaveData contains an earlier playthrough:
- Close the game and first preserve the current Restory folder.
- Temporarily turn off Steam Cloud for ReStory in its Steam settings.
- Open Restory, then BackupSaveData, then the latest numbered folder.
- Find the newest .restory file inside that numbered folder.
- Copy that file into Restory/SaveData, replacing the matching file only after the backup is safe.
- Start ReStory and verify that the intended progress has returned.
This restores an existing backup; it cannot recreate a branch that was never saved. Do not copy the numbered directory itself in place of the .restory file. If you later re-enable Cloud, check any conflict prompt against the copy you verified rather than choosing blindly.
Missing saves and Steam Cloud conflicts
If another computer still has the right shop, preserve its local files before opening and saving on both machines. Compare the Steam account, installed version and synchronization state. Repeatedly starting New Game or deleting folders makes it harder to identify the remaining good copy.
If no suitable backup exists, retain the remaining files and contact support; recovery is not guaranteed. A save that opens but has no story customers is a different issue: use the story not progressing checklist before replacing files.
Save planning for both endings
Protect one copy before a character invitation and another before Hashimoto's final proposal. Character-route choices happen earlier than the final ending split, so a backup made at the finale may already be too late to change who moved in. The endings guide separates those two branches.
Folder and restore instructions were checked on October 20, 2026 against tinyBuild support; the five-slot addition is documented in the official patch history. The October 27, 2026 beta-branch note uses the Mandragora folder on Windows and the Restory folder on Mac as the backup location before you opt into beta_version. See story not progressing before you switch branches.
FAQ
Where is the ReStory save on Windows?
tinyBuild support lists %UserProfile%\AppData\LocalLow\Mandragora\Restory. The current playthrough is inside SaveData. Close the game before you copy the folder.
Where is the ReStory save on Mac?
The same support article lists ~/Library/Application Support/Mandragora/Restory.
How do I restore the previous playthrough?
After New Game, look in BackupSaveData for the newest numbered folder and copy its newest .restory file into SaveData. Back up the live folder and turn Steam Cloud off before that copy.
