ReStory Painting Guide

This ReStory painting guide covers the airbrush, the ten named palette sets, freestyle orders, sticker sets, and the painting fixes through patch 1.0.033r.

ReStory painting starts with the Imama Moonrise XP-SP Airbrush from Home Depot at ¥35,000. Palette sets are a second purchase. Owning the tool does not include the colors, and a job that names a set stays blocked until that set is owned.

Palettes

Home Depot sells these sets at ¥7,000 each: Wind Amp, Banana Barrel, A Bit of Torrent, Kawaii Overload, Maid Flyer, Memory Dump, AMV Crush, Atari Retro, Ramen Shop, and Y2K Future. Paint is not consumed, so each set is bought once. The shop filter hides paint sets until you own the airbrush, and it hides them again once you own every set.

The Wind Amp page is the specific path for that one set: Home Depot, Color Palettes, Wind Amp. A Freestyle order is an order type, not a palette name. For a named set, any colors from that set can be used, and colors from other sets are allowed, but the required set's bar has to reach 100%.

On the bench

Painting mode opens when a fixed device is fully assembled on the mat. You can pick the set, brush size, brush mode, opacity, and color, and you can undo, redo, reset the color, or hide the tool panel. You can paint a device even when the order did not ask for customization. Customizing also adds a resale bonus after patch 1.0.033r.

Sticker sets cost ¥1,000 each: Black Ink, Next-Gen Toys, MTW, Funny Stories, and Turbo. Stickers are applied from painting mode on a fixed device. Patch 1.0.033r lets you put stickers on flashlights and fixed sticker placement on Nerdio watch bodies and straps.

Fixes worth knowing

Patch 1.0.011r fixed a painting-palettes interface bug. Patch 1.0.033r fixed device painting on older graphics cards, reworked painting for precision and performance, fixed a memory leak after painting and shipping devices, and fixed painting on Robby's ears and flashlight side panels. Update before you treat a dead paint tool as a missing purchase.

Custom orders available! is the first customer-requested paint job. Jack of all trades needs paint, cleaning, repair, and firmware in the same order. Sticker counts are Instant Cool, Instant Cool-er at 25, and Sticker Bombing at 100. See achievements and firmware.

Repair steps

  1. Buy the airbrush. Buy the Imama Moonrise XP-SP Airbrush from Home Depot for 35,000 yen. Paint sets stay hidden in that shop until the airbrush is owned.
  2. Buy the named set. Buy the palette named by the order. Each set costs 7,000 yen and only needs to be purchased once. Wind Amp is bought under Home Depot color palettes.
  3. Assemble before painting. Enter painting mode only when the device is fixed and fully assembled on the mat. Choose the set, brush size, brush mode, opacity, and color.
  4. Fill the required bar. Colors from other sets are allowed, but the bar for the required set must reach 100%. Freestyle orders can mix any owned sets.

FAQ

What do I buy before a paint job?

Buy the Imama Moonrise XP-SP Airbrush for 35,000 yen from Home Depot, then buy the palette set named in the order. Each set costs 7,000 yen and is not consumed.

Why is the palette missing in Home Depot?

The Home Depot filter hides paint sets until you own the airbrush, and it also hides them after every set has been purchased.

Can I use colors from another set?

Yes, but a named set still has to reach 100% on its own bar. Freestyle orders can mix sets. Wind Amp is one named set, not a device.
